I am retiring from American Yo-yo Association competition
Yes, you read right. I am retiring from AYYA competition (specifically AYYA and other contests that do not have an Artistic Performance division).
As many of you know, I never score well in competitions. The reason is that it's very much a trick-based scoring system, and I am merely a performer. I feel that my low placings do not reflect well upon my entertainment value, and it has become increasingly frustrating trying to explain to spectators why I do not do well, and to get them to understand how low entertainment value is worth in a trick-based competition.
Contests just don't hold a place for a performer like me. My place is the big stage. The big venues. The places where people come to get their minds blown in entertainment. Please, I do not want to take anything away from competitors, as I am extremely happy for our new medalists at the Indiana State Yoyo Contest! However, contests just do not hold a place for me.
Except for Artistic Performance at the World Yoyo Contest. Expect me to compete in that ;)
Now, this does not mean I will not be attending anymore contests. I love hanging with other yoyoers! I merely will not compete. I can't thank these competitions enough for making me who I am, but if the judging system does not fit my style, I refuse to try to mold to it. The competition aspect used to make me so happy, but now it just frustrates me to try and score well in a judging system that does not reflect the way that I, personally, perform.
With that being said, I hope to see you all at my next show, and even the next few contests. Keep spreading the love, and I can assure you I will be cheering on each and every one of you!
All is love,
-Noel Kunz

Things to do Before I Die
Inspired by The Buried Life, and seeing some of the things that happened at MAFA this weekend, I thought I'd post my list online. Each of you are tagged because I would like to think you are all a part of this journey, and hopefully I could be a part of yours. This will be updated as things are added, but here is what I have now. I might have changed the order, as some things have been removed from my original "list" since I was young.
1. Have a kid when I'm ready
2. Become the best Dad I can be
3. *Meet a friend worth dying for (Dr. Chang)
4. *Have a crowd of 1,000 people applaud me for yoyoing (Fact 08/09)
5. *Perform in New York (St. John's University PARE)
6. Get married in an unconventional, yet clever and cool way
7. Make a living performing yoyo
8. *Start my own t-shirt line (AndyWear)
9. *Publish a song on iTunes (Lonely Of Me)
10. Perform a song with Manny Garcia on stage with my ukulele
11. Perform my "Closer" show with an a capella group singing the song behind me
12. *Become Ball State's Mr. Phi-Nomenal
13. Make a Youtube video with JR Aquino
14. Meet AJ Rafael, take a picture with him, and hope he's not creeped out by me
15. Raise benefit money for Giant Robot
16. Do a video with Wong Fu Productions
17. Have a Noel Kunz action figure made
18. See my Kuya again
19. Take the girl of my dreams out on a roller skating date
20. Make my parents proud
21. *Design a signature yoyo (Special Edition Cut by Hspin)
22. Design my own shoe
23. Design a piece of clothing for an established clothing company
24. Have some sort of "True Life" documentary made of me
25. Truly turn someone's life around by being his or her hero
26. Act in an important role in a movie
27. Perform at Wong Fu's International Secret Agents show
28. Appear on The Disney Channel
29. *Give David Choi a high five
30. Have KevJumba give me a shoutout on one of his videos
31. Give HappySlip a hug
32. See Stevie Wonder live in concert
33. Make somebody truly, truly happy...
34. Graduate from college
35. Watch a Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge
36. Watch a 49ers vs. Raiders Battle of the Bay game (even if it's preseason)
37. Pass on the Integra to my kids
38. Perform in the Philippines
39. Finish my conversation with Aubrey Aquino
40. Get a St. Bernard
41. Have a statue made of me
* notes a completed task
As you can see, some of these things have already been accomplished. I'm sure there will be plenty more to add to this list over time.

$4 Well Spent
So I received a notification on my Facebook about a Yoyoskills.com post about Peter Fish yoyos at Walgreens. I was so excited, that I hopped the first ride I could get to Walgreens, and BAM...a whole showcase of yoyos! Anyway, Yoyoskills asked me to post the inner guts. Here they are:

Now, while these are pretty smooth for the price, they are pretty light (especialy the Luminator, which resembles a FH2 so much that old FH2 weight rings fit in them! And contrary to the name, the Luminator does NOT light up). However, these have a small YYJ bearing (found also in the Aquarius) which is good for the loopers, but not so good for the Luminator. They both play pretty smooth. I might be buying more since they are easy to mod :)
Pros:
-Fairly deep recess for siliconing (and it even has a lip!)
-Pretty smooth, especially for $4 yoyos
-No spacers, the bearing seats are molded into the body
-Good axle
Cons:
-The pads are too thick
-The pads are foam. Yep....FOAM!!!
-They come with cheap, plastic feeling string. Not as hard a plastic feel as Angel Hair, bu soft, yet cheap
Other than that...not bad. Good job Peter Fish!
I will probably be siliconing these tonight.
-Noel Kunz
P.S. A cleaned bearing, Chaz pads, and FH2 weight rings in the Luminator = PRETTY GOOD!! I will DEFINITELY be buying more of these! I just need to get more weight rings....
